TraceMagic for Analyzing Trace Files

TraceMagic is a utility that gives PeopleSoft system administrators, programmers and support engineers the ability to quickly isolate performance bottlenecks in SQL Statements and/or PeopleCode functions. It accomplishes this by turning the text-based, time-ordered tracesql file into a sortable-grid display, allowing the user to quickly locate system performance issues.

TraceMagic is a great tool for reading .tracesql files. The ability to group SQL by SELECT statements and see all the tables queried in the trace are great for debugging issues.

Additionally, beginning in version 3.5 there is the ability to compare 2 tracesql files and quickly spot the differences between them. This can be highly useful when attempting to locate the differences and/or patches between a broken system and a functioning one, or even allowing you to compare your existing production to a PUM (patch current) system.

Also New in Version 3.5 previous issues around stability and performance of the utility have been significantly improved. Along with over 25 enhancements added to allow TraceMagic users to get even better information out of their tracesql files. For full details on the enhancements and bug fixes in 3.5 see the Trace Magic Community

RequirementsTrace Magic requires Version 4 of the Microsoft dot.net Framework. The setup.exe program used to install TraceMagic on an end users machine will
inspect the target system for the presence of the prerequisite software, and request permission from the installer to download and install the
required software if needed. TraceMagic has been tested on the following platforms:

  •     Windows XP (32-bit) * some issues reported on machines with little RAM *
  •     Windows 7 (32-bit)
  •     Windows 7 (64-bit)
  •     Windows 8 (32-bit)
  •     Windows 8 (64-bit)
